Why Industry Events Matter in Interior Design: How Collaboration, Community, and Conversation Help Us Serve Our Clients Better

One of the things people often don’t see behind the scenes of the interior design world is how much time designers spend connecting with others in the industry. While the creative work of designing beautiful homes is a huge part of what we do, there is another equally important side to the profession — staying connected, informed, and collaborative with the broader design and building community.
Industry events play a huge role in that.
From local builder association meetings to showroom openings, networking events, design panels, and student mentorship programs, these gatherings are where ideas are exchanged, relationships are built, and the entire industry moves forward together.
This month we had the incredible opportunity to host one of these events ourselves, and it was a wonderful reminder of just how important these gatherings are — not only for designers, but ultimately for the clients we serve.
Let’s talk about why we attend so many industry events, what happens behind the scenes at them, and why they are such a valuable part of being a design firm that truly cares about staying at the forefront of our field.
Staying Connected to the Design and Building Community
Interior design doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
Every home we work on involves a wide network of professionals — builders, architects, contractors, cabinet makers, lighting specialists, flooring companies, and countless other experts who all play a role in bringing a home to life.
Industry events help bring those people together.
We regularly attend gatherings such as:
-
HBA (Home Builders Association) meetings
-
PWB (Professional Women in Building) events
-
Showroom openings
-
Networking mixers
-
Panel discussions
-
Designer meetups
-
Industry conferences
-
Student mentorship and job shadow programs
Each one provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationships that help make our projects successful.
Because when designers know and trust the professionals they collaborate with, the entire process becomes smoother for everyone involved — especially the client.

Seeing Emerging Trends Before They Reach the Market
Another major reason we attend industry events is to stay ahead of trends in the design and building world.
These gatherings are often where we first hear about:
-
New materials entering the market
-
Changes in manufacturing and building timelines
-
Shifts in design preferences
-
Innovations in construction methods
-
Emerging technology in the home
When designers connect with vendors, builders, and other professionals regularly, we gain insight into where the industry is headed long before those ideas reach the general public.
This allows us to guide our clients with confidence and authority.
When someone asks us what trends are emerging, what materials are performing well, or what design directions are gaining momentum, we’re able to speak from real conversations and firsthand experience.
Problem Solving and Brainstorming Together
Design projects can be incredibly complex.
Every home is different. Every client has unique needs. Every project brings its own challenges.
One of the most valuable aspects of industry events is the opportunity to discuss these challenges with other professionals who understand them.
Designers, builders, architects, and suppliers regularly share insights about:
-
Supply chain changes
-
Lead times and production delays
-
Material performance
-
Construction techniques
-
Client expectations and project management strategies
These conversations often lead to creative solutions that help everyone improve their work.
The design community thrives when professionals collaborate instead of competing — and industry events create the perfect environment for that collaboration.
Building a Network of Trusted Professionals
One of the biggest benefits our clients receive from our industry involvement is the network it allows us to build.
When we meet talented professionals at events, we’re able to form relationships that often turn into trusted partnerships.
That means when our clients need recommendations for:
-
Builders
-
Contractors
-
Cabinet companies
-
Tile installers
-
Painters
-
Electricians
-
Architects
We’re not guessing.
We’re referring them to people we know, trust, and have connected with personally.
This network becomes an invaluable resource for our clients as they move through their design projects.
Supporting the Next Generation of Designers
Industry events also provide opportunities to connect with the next generation of design professionals.
We regularly participate in:
-
Job shadow programs with local schools
-
Student design panels
-
Educational events for emerging designers
These experiences are incredibly meaningful for us.
Interior design is a profession built on creativity, mentorship, and shared knowledge. Being able to support students who are exploring careers in design is something we care deeply about.
Watching new designers discover their passion for this industry is always inspiring — and it reminds us why we love what we do.
Hosting a PCAHBA Event in Our Showroom
This month was especially exciting because we had the opportunity to host a PCAHBA (Park City Area Home Builders Association) event right here in our showroom.
And it was such a fantastic evening.
Hosting events like this allows us to open our doors to the broader design and building community and create a space where people can connect, collaborate, and celebrate the work we all care about.
It was also the perfect opportunity to show off our newly renovated showroom, which has been such a fun project for our team.
Guests were able to walk through the space, explore the different design vignettes, and see firsthand the styles and materials we’re currently loving.
From organic textures to mountain modern influences, traditional details, and everything in between, it was a great chance to showcase the wide range of design possibilities our showroom offers.
And of course, no event is complete without great food and great conversation.
We had the best time meeting new people, reconnecting with familiar faces, and simply enjoying an evening surrounded by so many talented professionals in our industry.
Why Events Like This Matter
At the end of the day, industry events aren’t just about networking.
They’re about building a stronger design community.
They’re about sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and staying connected to the evolving world of design and construction.
And most importantly, they help us serve our clients better.
When designers stay engaged in the industry — attending events, hosting gatherings, collaborating with other professionals — it ensures that we remain informed, inspired, and connected to the people who help bring beautiful homes to life.

Thank You to Everyone Who Joined Us
To everyone who attended our PCAHBA event this month — thank you.
We loved welcoming you into our space, sharing our newly refreshed showroom, and spending the evening connecting with such a wonderful group of industry professionals.
Events like this remind us why we love this industry so much.
It’s not just about design.
It’s about people.
And we’re incredibly grateful to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community.
