Critter Corner: Why Animals Are Everywhere in Design Right Now

Pets have always been a huge part of the home. Dogs curled up on sofas, cats claiming the best chair in the room, birds chirping somewhere in the background of life. Animals naturally exist alongside us, so maybe it makes sense that they’re starting to show up more and more in design too.
And right now? They’re everywhere. We’re seeing animals show up in wallpaper, fabrics, carved details, hardware, bedding, sculpture, accessories, artwork, lighting details, and furniture accents. There really isn’t a corner of design that animals haven’t found their way into lately.
And honestly, I love it.
There’s something about animal-inspired design that instantly makes a room feel more personal and layered. It adds personality in a way that can feel playful, elegant, dramatic, organic, or even a little unexpected depending on how it’s used. And the best part is there are so many directions it can go.

Some of the biggest animal influences we’re seeing right now are horses, dogs, tigers, deer, birds, bees, butterflies, and even Chinese dragons showing up in fabrics, wallpapers, and accessories. And somehow, all of them can work beautifully depending on the style of the home.
That’s what makes this trend so interesting. It isn’t one specific look.
Animal-inspired design can lean very traditional, very modern, very organic, or very edgy depending on how you use it. An English riding horse printed on a pillow in a traditional study feels completely different than a metallic snakeskin bench in a contemporary space. A flock of birds on wallpaper in an organic room creates softness and movement while bee-shaped hardware in a casual space adds personality in a more subtle way.
And birds especially are having a moment right now. Everything from whimsical little tweety-bird style prints to dramatic peacocks and cranes are showing up throughout interiors. Some feel playful and charming while others feel incredibly sophisticated and artistic.
The same goes for butterflies and insects. What could have easily felt overly themed years ago now feels collected and elevated when used correctly. Small details like carved butterflies in hardware or bee motifs worked into accessories create those little unexpected moments that make a room feel thoughtful.
And if actual animal imagery feels like too much for your style, animal-inspired patterns are still one of the most timeless ways to bring this trend into a space.
Animal prints never fully disappear from design because they work almost like a neutral. Tiger stripes, cheetah patterns, snakeskin textures, even softer organic patterns inspired by deer spotting or feathers can add movement and interest without feeling overly literal.
That’s why animal prints continue to show up over and over again in rugs, upholstery, pillows, and accent fabrics. They create texture and variation while still layering beautifully into other design styles. And some of the best versions are the quieter ones.
Hair-on-hide rugs. Faux furs. Soft textured fabrics that mimic the feeling of nature without directly showing an animal at all. These materials bring warmth, texture, and dimension into a room while still subtly nodding to the natural world. Which really is the heart of this whole trend.
Animals feel natural in design because nature itself feels natural in design.

People are craving homes that feel layered, connected, and full of personality right now. They want spaces that feel collected instead of overly sterile or overly perfect. Animal-inspired details help create that feeling because they bring movement, storytelling, and a little bit of fun into a room.
And there’s something refreshing about that. Design doesn’t always have to take itself so seriously. Sometimes a beautiful horse print, a dramatic tiger-inspired fabric, or a tiny bee detail on cabinetry is exactly the thing that gives a room personality and makes people smile.
And really… isn’t that part of what great design is supposed to do?
