Color, Thoughtfully: A Designer’s Guide to Bringing Color Into Your Home

Part 7: Going All In — When Color Becomes the Statement
Up to this point, we’ve talked about bringing color in thoughtfully. Layering it in ways that feel natural, grounded, and intentional. But for some people… that’s not the goal. For some, color isn’t something to ease into. It’s something to embrace.
And when done well, a full-color approach doesn’t feel overwhelming. It feels expressive, confident and alive.
When Color Leads the Room
There are spaces where color doesn’t just support the design, it becomes the design. A bold sofa in a rich tone can anchor an entire room. A saturated rug can set the energy the moment you walk in. Drapery, artwork, and accessories can all build on that foundation, creating a space that feels layered, vibrant, and full of personality. This is where color takes the lead.
And instead of asking “is this too much?” the question becomes “does this feel like me?”
Emotion, Memory, and Connection
Color is deeply personal. We connect to it in ways we don’t always realize. Through memories, through places we’ve been, through how certain tones make us feel. A deep green might remind you of the mountains. A warm terracotta might feel grounding and comforting. A bold blue might feel energizing and fresh. When you lean into color in a bigger way, you’re tapping into that connection. You’re creating a space that reflects not just your style, but your perspective.

Layering Without Losing Balance
Going all in on color doesn’t mean everything has to compete. The key is still balance. Even in a bold room, there’s a rhythm to how color is layered. One piece might take the lead, like a sofa or rug, while other elements support it. Tones can echo each other throughout the space, creating cohesion even when the palette is vibrant. It’s not about matching. It’s about connecting.
A Space That Feels Alive
There’s something about a colorful room that just feels different. It has energy. It has personality. It invites conversation and creates a sense of movement that you don’t get from a more neutral space. And for people who are drawn to color, that’s exactly what they want.
A home that doesn’t just look good but feels expressive, creative, and uniquely theirs.
Not for Everyone — And That’s the Point
One of the most important things to understand about this approach is that it’s not for everyone. And it’s not supposed to be. Design isn’t about following a single path. It’s about finding what resonates with you and building around that. For some, that’s a calm, neutral palette with subtle layers of color. For others, it’s bold, saturated, and unapologetically expressive.
Both are right.
Confidence Is the Key
The difference between a colorful room that feels chaotic and one that feels incredible is confidence. Be confident in your choices. Be confident in the direction your designer is taking things. Be confident know that the space will reflect you if you just trust the
process. When that’s there, everything else falls into place.

As we wrap up this series, there’s one final layer to talk about. Because the most beautiful homes don’t rely on just one approach to color. They bring it all together.
Stay tuned for the final part of our series, where we’ll talk about how to create a home that feels cohesive, personal, and completely yours through curated color.
